Born in New Zealand in1963, Jiménez grew up in the Tasman region and currently lives and works in Christchurch.

As a student, her art teacher Bronwen Marwick was a primary inspiration and mentor. Gutsy and untamed , her teaching methods and circle of friends: (like Toss Woollaston, Bill Hammond, Philip Trustum) pushed her concepts about art into ever widening possibilities.

Thus the things experienced from an early age; namely discipline combined with freedom led Jiménez to a rich life where art has been at the forefront.
